What the eyewear store website had to do
Glasses are bought with the eyes first. A store that sells them online has to show a frame well enough that a visitor wants to see the rest.
The design gives the first screen to one frame, photographed on a dark stone, with the headline set in a serif above it. The menu is five plain links, with the account, search and bag icons at the right. A thin bar across the top carries the current offers.

- A short, plain menuFive links, then account and bag.

Before you brief anyone
Planning an eyewear ecommerce website? Decide these first
Settle the photography, the fit and the prescription flow before the store design.
Request a scoping callDecide how frames are photographed before the pages are designed.
Glasses are small and reflective, so one angle, background and light across the whole catalog does more for the store than any layout.
Decide how buyers judge size and fit.
Frame measurements, a face shape guide or a virtual try-on each change the product page, and try-on is a build of its own.
Decide whether the store sells prescription lenses.
An optical store website design that takes prescriptions needs a lens choice, a way to enter or upload the prescription and a rule for who checks it, which reaches well past the frame page.
Then scope it as an ecommerce build, not only a design.
Our custom ecommerce development page covers the systems behind an online store, and our guide to website redesign cost explains the budget.

What should an eyewear website include?
Frame photography from consistent angles, filters by shape, size and color, and product pages that answer fit before price. If prescription lenses are sold, the lens choice and the prescription belong in the checkout.
What makes a good eyewear store homepage?
One frame that leads. SpectraLux gives the first screen to a single pair on dark stone under a serif headline, with a five-link menu and the current offers kept to a thin bar at the top.
Does an eyewear ecommerce website need virtual try-on?
Not always at launch. Try-on is its own build with its own running costs, so it is worth weighing against strong photography and clear frame measurements, which every store needs anyway.
How much does an eyewear website cost?
Catalog size, the lens and prescription flow and the systems the store connects to set the figure, so we quote once the scope is clear. Our guide to website redesign cost lays out what drives it.
Do you design eyewear and optical store websites?
Yes. We design online stores for eyewear and other retail brands as part of our web design work, with signage and packaging when the brand needs them. SpectraLux is one example.
