Design work: Electric vehicle charging

EV charging website design, carried from the homepage to a billboard

A website for an electric vehicle charging company, designed under the project name Sparkon: the homepage, the same message on a billboard, and the mark as a sign on a wall.

What the EV charging website had to do

An EV charging company is asked the same things first: how fast it charges, when it is available and where. The website has to answer them where a visitor lands.

The design leads with the charger itself on a dark page, with one headline and one button. The charging power sits on a card beside it and the key figures run in a row beneath. The same headline, charger and card carry on to a billboard.

  • The charger leadsThe product stands beside the headline.
  • Figures in one rowFour numbers sit under the headline.
  • One message, two sizesThe page and the billboard match.

What we designed for the EV charging website

  1. Website

The homepage for desktop, on a dark background.

  2. Visual elements

Color, type and the data card used on the page.

  3. Brand identity

The mark and wordmark, shown as a sign on a wall.

  4. Billboard

The homepage message laid out for outdoor display.

Before you brief anyone

Planning an EV charging company website? Decide these first

Settle the audience, the figures and any live data before the homepage.

Request a scoping call
  1. Decide who the homepage is for.

Drivers looking for a charger, property owners buying an installation and fleet managers ask different questions, and each needs a route from the first screen.

  2. Decide which figures go up front, and who keeps them right.

Charging power, availability and coverage are what visitors check first, and a figure that has gone out of date costs more trust than a missing one.

  3. Decide whether the site shows live charger status.

A station map fed from the charging network is software, not a page, and it changes the build far more than the design does. Our web development page covers that side.

  4. Then carry the message off the screen.

A clean energy website design that matches the billboard and the signage makes the brand recognizable in the street. Our guide to website redesign cost explains the budget for the site itself.

What should an EV charging company website include?

How fast it charges, where the chargers are and when they are available, said where a visitor lands, then a route for each audience: drivers, site hosts and fleets. Sparkon leads with the charger, its power on a card beside it and four figures in a row below.

Should an EV charging website show a live charger map?

Only if the network can feed it reliably. A live map is software connected to the chargers and needs an owner after launch, so a coverage page is often the simpler place to start.

How do you make a clean energy website memorable?

By making the product the image. This design puts the charger beside the headline on a dark page, then repeats the same headline, charger and card on a billboard.

How much does an EV charging website cost?

Pages, live data from the network and brand work each add to it, so we put a number on it after a scoping call. Our guide to website redesign cost breaks the figure down.

Do you design websites for energy companies?

Yes. We design websites for charging and energy companies as part of our web design work. For wind power, see our renewable energy website design for Turbica.
