Skincare app design for shopping, with a face scan and suggested products

A shopping app for skincare products, designed under the project name Gleamglow: a home screen sorted by skin concern, a face scan with suggested products under it, the product pages and the identity.

What the skincare shopping app had to do

Skincare is bought by concern, not by product name. A shopper knows their skin is dry or oily before they know which cream they want, so the app has to start from the skin and end at the product.

The design gives that route two starts. The home screen filters the range by concern, and a scan button opens a view of the face with a short row of products under it. The palette is one soft pink, with black controls.

  • Start from the skinFilters for acne, dry skin and oily skin.
  • A scan to productsThe face scan ends in a suggested row.
  • A quiet paletteSoft pink cards, with black controls.

Before you brief anyone

Planning a skincare app? Start from the skin, not the screen

Tag by concern, say plainly what the scan does, and plan the routine before the screens.

Request a scoping call
  1. Decide how the range is tagged by concern before any screen is designed.

Shoppers look for products for dry, oily or acne-prone skin, and concern filters work only when every product carries the right tags.

  2. Be clear about what a face scan does.

A scan that suggests products is a shopping aid, not a diagnosis, and the words around it should say so; how the face is analyzed is a development and data decision, separate from the design.

  3. Plan for the routine as well as the purchase.

A daily routine on the home screen gives a shopper a reason to open the app between orders, and reminders and reorders can grow from it.

  4. Scope the build as its own step.

Beauty app development adds camera access, product data and checkout, which our mobile app development page covers, and our ecommerce page sets out how we approach online stores.

What features should a skincare app have?

Filters by skin concern, clear product pages and a route from a concern to a product are the core. The Gleamglow design adds a daily routine bar on the home screen and a face scan that ends in a row of suggested products.

How does a face scan work in a skincare app?

In the Gleamglow design the scan opens a frame over the face, with suggested products below it. How the face is analyzed is decided in development, and a scan like this is a shopping aid, not a medical assessment.

What is beauty app design?

Beauty app design is the interface work for apps that sell cosmetics and skincare or guide their use: how products are found, compared and bought. Gleamglow is a skincare example, in one soft pink with black controls.

How much does a skincare app cost?

The scan, the link to the product catalog and the checkout account for most of the work, so we scope before giving a number. See our guide to mobile app development cost for what changes it.

Do you design beauty and skincare apps?

Yes. Gleamglow is design work shown under its project name, and we design shopping apps for beauty and skincare brands through our mobile app design service.
