Design work: Virtual reality

Virtual reality website design for a VR company, in black and yellow

A website for a virtual reality experiences company, designed under the project name Holonix: a dark homepage for desktop and phone, built around one figure in a headset, and the wordmark on a building.

What the virtual reality website had to do

A virtual reality experience is hard to describe to someone who has not tried one. The website has to make a visitor curious in the first screen, and then give them one clear thing to do.

The design is black with a single yellow accent. A figure in a headset stands in the middle of the page under a thin, wide headline, and the menu, the wordmark and the two buttons stay small around it.

  • One figure, one headlineThe headset leads the first screen.
  • Black and one yellowYellow for the figure and the buttons.
  • Stacked for phonesHeadline, text, button, then the figure.

What we designed for the virtual reality website

  1. Website

The homepage hero and its menu, laid out for desktop.

  2. Mobile views

The same hero stacked in one column for a phone.

  3. Wordmark

The name set in wide capitals, shown as metal letters.

  4. Signage

The wordmark as raised letters on a glass building.

Before you brief anyone

Planning a VR company website? Make these calls first

Let one picture carry the first screen, then settle the button, the media and the phone layout.

Request a scoping call
  1. Decide what the first screen has to convey.

A VR experience is hard to show on a flat screen, so the hero image and the headline do the work a demo would, and one strong picture does more than a collage.

  2. Settle where the main button leads.

A booking, a demo request and a venue finder each need a different page behind it, so agree on one before the hero is designed.

  3. Plan video and 3D with page speed in mind.

Headset footage and 3D models tell the story well but load slowly, so decide where they appear and what a phone visitor sees in their place.

  4. Agree the phone layout in the design, not during the build.

On a phone the hero stacks into one column, and the order of headline, text, button and figure is a design decision. Our web design service covers both layouts, and our web development team builds them.

What should a virtual reality company website include?

A first screen that makes the experience feel real, one clear next step and a fast phone layout. The Holonix homepage uses a single figure in a yellow headset under a thin, wide headline, with the menu, the wordmark and two buttons kept small around it.

How do you show a VR experience on a website?

We let one strong image or a short clip carry the first screen and keep everything around it quiet. On Holonix, a black page with a single yellow accent keeps the eye on the figure in the headset.

How much does a VR website cost?

The number of pages, any video or 3D content and the booking tools set the scope, and the price follows a scoping call. Our guide to website redesign cost covers the drivers.

Do you design websites for VR and technology companies?

Yes. Holonix is a website we designed and show under its project name, and our web design service covers sites for technology companies.
